The Western Wedge – Our Plans
The Western Wedge supports arts across west London – but what do we actually do?
Research
In 2005 the Western Wedge commissioned a report on the cultural landscape of west London. We wanted to find out what kinds of artists and arts organisations were working in each borough, and to identify areas in need of support or development. ‘Western Wedge: the Way Ahead’ was compiled by Tom Fleming Consultancy and identified a number of ways the Western Wedge could approach arts development in the region, including training, workspace development and capacity building.
The Way Ahead research informs the Western Wedge’s terms of reference, which are updated every year. Currently, the Western Wedge’s priorities are:
• Capacity building and diversity
• Communication and information systems
• Planning Gain
• Workspaces and Venues
The Western Wedge will next review its terms of reference in January 2009. The Creative Industries Framework and the Western Wedge terms of reference are both available for download from the bottom of this article, and from the ‘downloads’ area on the right.
Working Together
The Western Wedge members meet every two months to discuss how to develop the Western Wedge Action Plan, which includes all plans for the region. In March 2008 the Western Wedge appointed a part-time coordinator to help manage our resources and drive forward our priorities for the future.
At the moment, the Western Wedge is actively working on:
• Coordinating marketing strategies across west London
• Developing the West London Story, west London’s cultural offer for the 2012 Olympics
• Supporting Street Arts and Festivals in west London
Our next meeting will be held in September 2008.
